Bike check: Ben Healy’s Cannondale LAB71 SuperSix EVO for Liège-Bastogne-Liège

Irish breakaway artist’s bike is tuned for speed

April 25, 2025

Ben Healy is bringing the heat to Liège-Bastogne-Liège.

After finishing fifth on top of the Mur de Huy at La Flèche Wallonne, Ben is bringing his best form to this Ardennaise Monument. His sights are set on the podium and he has a bike to match his ambitions. Ben’s Cannondale LAB71 SuperSix EVO is made to soar up climbs like the Côte de la Redoute and Côte de la Roche aux Faucons and rip down descents through the Ardennes forests. He is stoked to race it Sunday at Liège-Bastogne-Liège.

“The fact that Liège is a Monument obviously puts it right up there with the coolest races, but for me the fans on La Redoute and Roche aux Faucons just take it to the next level,” Ben says. “When you're suffering up there and it's just a wall of sound, it is one of the coolest feelings. In past years, it's just been raced so hard. It's all about saving everything you can and then hopefully you have the good legs to follow on La Redoute. And then once you've made that group, it’s about saving again until Roche aux Faucons. That’s the last big hit up. And then in the finale, it’s just suffering. I need to try and get a gap and get ahead.”

That is why Ben’s bike is optimized for aerodynamics. He knows that half a meter over the top of one of the final climbs can make the difference between an attack that sticks, versus one that gets caught. He runs a narrow SystemBar R-One cockpit with inturned shifters and a relatively long reach so he can reduce his frontal surface area and tuck his back flat under the wind.

Constructed from Cannondale’s highest grade carbon fiber, Ben’s frame is feather-light and stiff with geometry that allows him to race into corners on the very limit with total confidence. He will ride 30-mm Vittoria Corsa Pro tires on his new full-carbon Vision Metron 45 RS wheels, which are 200 grams lighter than their predecessors.

He mounts Wahoo SPEEDPLAY AERO pedals to his FSA cranks for extra speed and cornering clearance, and tracks his data using his WAHOO ELEMNT Roam.
