Bike check: Harry Sweeny’s Cannondale LAB71 SuperSix EVO
Former Il Piccolo Lombardia winner excited to race on his old home roads
October 10, 2025
On Saturday, Aussie all-rounder Harry Sweeny will race Il Lombardia on his trusty Cannondale LAB71 SuperSix EVO.
Harry has fond memories of Lombardy. He lived near the Lago Maggiore when he first moved to Europe, and, back in 2020, he won Il Piccolo Lombardia, the U23 version of the Monument.
“These are all my home roads,” Harry said. “I just did all of my favorite climbs on my pre-race ride. It was really nice to ride all of the hills where I used to train. I love it around here. When I was an under-23, this region was my first proper home in Europe. It’s so nostalgic for me here now to see all of these places. When I lived here, I never imagined that I would actually be a pro, and now to come back and ride these roads is really special.”
Since those early days in Europe, Harry has emerged as one of the most valuable riders in the professional peloton. Ben Healy, Richard Carapaz, and Neilson Powless will count on Harry to lead them deep into the finale Saturday, setting them up for climbs like the Passo della Crocetta, Zambla Alta, and Passo di Gana, so they can shake up Italy’s autumn classic.
Harry has proven that he has the skills and watts to play his role late in the race on Saturday. He is coming off an exceptional Tour de France and is pushing great numbers in training.
Harry tracks his power using his FSA PowerBox K-Force Team Edition carbon fiber cranks. Weighing just 690 grams, it is one of the lightest and stiffest powermeter cranksets on the market, with left and right Bluetooth connection for unmatched accuracy.
“You can't live without a powermeter in this day and age,” Harry said. “For nutrition, for training load, it's invaluable. I don't think you could be a pro without a power meter. The FSA PowerBox K-Force Team Edition is accurate and it's actually waterproof, which you can't say about every powermeter. It is just reliable.”
With 56x40 FSA chainrings and an 11-34 cassette, Harry will have all the gears to power over the mountains that surround the lakes north of Milan efficiently. His Wahoo SPEEDPLAY AERO pedals provide best-in-the-peloton cornering clearance and aerodynamics.
For 120 years Il Lombardia has been one of the toughest tests in professional cycling. Harry’s LAB71 SuperSix EVO is up to the challenge. Cannondale’s ultimate race bike is feather-light and diamond-stiff with aero-sculpted geometry designed to plunge through corners and leave rivals gasping for breath.
“I love the LAB71 SuperSix EVO,” he said. “It's a very versatile bike. It is light. It’s fast. And we have super nice wheels and tires.”
With Vision Metron 45 RS carbon race wheels and 30mm Vittoria Corsa Pro tires, Harry is set up for speed. Vision’s Metron 45 RS aren’t only lighter than their predecessors. The Italian manufacturer’s latest all-carbon racing series wheels feature a wider internal diameter for better tire aerodynamics and improved rolling resistance. Vittoria’s Corsa Pro tires soar over the asphalt and provide outstanding grip in the corners.
Harry will navigate Il Lombardia from his Cannondale System R-One Carbon one-piece cockpit. His FSA PowerBox K-Force Team Edition powermeter transmits his ride data directly to his Wahoo ELEMNT BOLT 3 computer.
Harry is one of the most fastidious riders in the peloton. He’ll pore over his TrainingPeaks file after the race. Come Saturday, the numbers that really count will be on the results sheet, though.
“I haven't raced here since I won Il Piccolo Lombardia, so I'm looking forward to coming back now as a pro five years later,” Harry said. “I think we can aim to win, but it has to be the right scenario. Other teams are incredibly strong, but so are we, and it's never a done thing until the first person crosses the line.”
One thing is for sure, Harry’s Cannondale LAB71 SuperSix EVO is ready to fly at Il Lombardia.
