Bike Check: Nina Berton’s Cannondale LAB71 SuperSix EVO for Omloop het Nieuwsblad

Luxembourgish talent has tuned her bike for the classics

February 28, 2025

It is Nina Berton’s favorite time of year.

Tomorrow, the 23-year-old Luxembourger will kick off her classics season at Omloop het Nieuwsblad. Nina can’t wait to throw herself into a chaotic peloton and fly over the Flemish cobblestones. She has tuned her Cannondale LAB71 SuperSix EVO for the Belgian races.

“It is the perfect bike for the classics because it's a mix of being aero but still light enough to go over the climbs,” Nina says. “It floats over the cobbles, but still it has great stiffness for the sprints and the short accelerations. It’s just a nice agile bike for these races and all the corners. You really feel it accelerate. It's good for the high speed.”

Nina will race 30mm Vittoria Corsa Pro tubeless tires with Air-Liners mounted to her Vision Metron 45 SL wheels at the Omloop. She’ll run 3.5 bar in the front and 3.7 in the rear.

“The Air-Liner is really nice in these kinds of races,” Nina says. “They add some safety if you get a puncture, so you can keep going until you can change the wheel. Also, the feeling with the Air-Liner is much softer and smoother on the road. It just gives you some extra grip. Otherwise, we just run lower pressure in the classics with tires that are a bit wider. We already have a perfect setup for all kinds of racing and you don't really want to switch it around.”

Nina is known in the team for paying attention to aerodynamics. She almost always races in her POC Procen Air and has tuned her position to lower her aerodynamic drag. One of the biggest changes she made for this year was a switch to shorter cranks, which helps her tuck her back flat.

“I was always on 172.5mm cranks and now I'm on 167.5mm ones,” she says. “That is not a very usual length for a crank, but I'm really happy that we have this possibility from FSA. The shorter cranks help me to get more aero on the bike because my hip angle is more open. That lets me go longer with my cockpit in the front so I can go lower. I think this helps me save a lot of energy.”

Nina’s game plan for tomorrow is to wait until the finale and try to go with the big attacks at the end. Her Cannondale LAB71 SuperSix EVO balances efficiency and speed to help her get to the Muur with power to spare.

Nina Berton wants to ride it straight into the finale tomorrow at Omloop het Nieuwsblad.
