Far Beyond Bike Check: Lachlan Morton’s Cannondale EVO SE for Transcordilleras

Check out the machine Lachy will be riding in Colombia

February 21, 2025

Lachlan Morton is in Colombia, ready to take on the first race of the new Far Beyond calendar.

On Sunday, he will roll out for stage one of Transcordilleras, an eight-day high-altitude bikepacking race on gravel roads across the Colombian Andes that will push him and his bike to the edge of their capabilities. Lachlan is ready. So is his trusty Cannondale EVO SE.

For Transcordilleras, he has mounted 44mm Vittoria Mezcals to his Vision Metron 45SL wheels. The Mezcals balance low rolling resistance for smoother sections of the course with great grip on rocky, muddy terrain. Lachlan’s Metron 45SLs weigh just 1390 grams and provide superior aerodynamics for the faster sectors of the Transcordilleras route. Their new PRS hubs engage 24% faster than previous iterations of the hubs for better power transfer and durability.

The stages at Transcordilleras average over 2000 meters of climbing on dirt roads that wind over cols that rise more than 4000 meters above sea level. To maintain an efficient pedal stroke in temperatures that can rise above 40 degrees Celsius, Lachlan will ride 50/34 Hollowgram front chainrings with an 11/34 cassette. This set up will allow him to keep his cadence up on steep gritty climbs and roll fast down the descents.

Lachlan prefers his 175mm Hollowgram crankset and 40-centimeter-wide Vision Metron 4D bars.

He will navigate the eight-day race using his Wahoo ELEMNT BOLT and carry all of his overnight bikepacking gear in Tailfin bags.
