Tour de France Daily | Stage 5 | Caen before the strom
We’re going all in tomorrow on the road to Vire Normandie

With two huge days ahead of us that will favor our attackers, we decided discretion is the better part of valor and rolled the TT at a brisk pace, but not hard enough to deaden our legs. We’re going to need all of our strength tomorrow to go for the win on the road from Bayeux to Vire Normandie, and then on Stage 7, where the race finishes with a punchy climb up the Mûr-de-Bretagne.
We’re stoked, and the crowds that lined today’s time trial in Caen just added to our motivation.

My day was great. The legs felt good. I did a bit of an opener and then just cruised in to the line, but a few thousand people sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to me on the start ramp, which was really cool. There were heaps of supporters out and lots of Aussies today. All around, it was a great day. We have some big stages coming up, so I have saved as much energy as I could for that. We are going to let rip.

There was a super nice crowd the whole way around the TT. I really enjoyed it. The fans by the side of the road made me want to push on the pedals, but today was about recovery and taking it easy. We’re focused on the days coming up. Yesterday definitely gave me a lot of confidence. I saw the legs were there and today in the TT, even though I didn't go full gas, I had really good legs. That is encouraging for the coming days.
Tomorrow is going to be super hard. It will be a big, big fight for the break. We have a lot of cards to play as a team, so we’re going to go for it.

It was a nice day. I got to recharge the batteries a little bit and gave a good tempo effort out on the TT. I didn’t go too hard, just kept the legs turning over. It was a nice sunny day out there in the corn fields. I had a good time.
I saw a lot of American flags and a lot of people out there cheering and enjoying the nice weather. It looked like a nice day to watch the Tour.
I am feeling super good for the days coming up. The body seems to be recovering pretty well each day and today I felt like I was really turning over the pedals easily.
I am looking forward to the next few days. We’re going for it tomorrow.

The crowds were amazing. It was like going through a tunnel. I was going a bit too hard to really hear anything. Tour time trials are always fun. There were so many people.
The legs were a bit heavy after yesterday, but that's hardly a surprise. It is what it is. It was not my best time trial ever, but I still like doing a good TT at the Tour.
We have some big days coming up. We are looking forward to that. I think we have some great opportunities with the riders we have here, so it's going to be fun.
