Far Beyond: Three Peaks Cyclocross follows Lachlan Morton over Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside, and Ingleborough, as our Aussie adventurer returns to Yorkshire for the toughest cyclocross race on earth.

Lachlan made his Three Peaks Cyclocross debut back in 2019. Still an off-road novice, racing the first season of our Alternative Calendar with WorldTour form and sheer enthusiasm, Lachlan fell in love with Yorkshire’s most bonkers, lung-searing, hike-a-bike-and-hurtle-down-rock-gardens race. Ever since, Lachlan wanted to return to the Pennines to add another Three Peaks tale to his collection of pub stories. Lachlan finished fourth that first year. With six years of mountain biking and gravel racing behind him, could he go better? Lachlan wanted to try.

Three Peaks Cyclocross is a race like no other. Passing over three high fells above the River Ribble in the Yorkshire Dales, it has hardly changed since it was first held in the 1960s. The course forces riders to shoulder their bikes and haul themselves up mountainsides by the coarse grass, before ripping down rocky, technical descents on skinny tires. To this day, the main prizes are bragging rights and a place in local history.

In the weeks leading up to the race, Lachlan tacked spikes into the front of his shoes and practiced his run-ups. He reconned the course with local guides and was stunned by its harshness and Yorkshire’s rugged natural beauty. Once the starter’s gun went off, Lachlan raced his heart out alongside a few hundred other Three Peaks Cyclocross fanatics, scrambling and bouncing over the hills.

He left Yorkshire with another great tale to tell. Watch Lachlan’s Three Peaks Cyclocross story–out now on YouTube.
