The Great Southern Country film tour

Our documentary following Lachlan Morton’s record-setting ride around Australia will debut at the Tour Down Under

January 16, 2025

Last fall, Lachlan Morton set out from his home town of Port Macquarie and rode the 14,200-kilometer lap of Australia in just 30 days, nine hours, and 59 minutes, averaging more than 460 kilometers per day.

By the end of his lap, Lachy had ridden more than any cyclist before him ever had in a month. It’s a story that goes beyond the pursuit of records and explores Australia’s vast, rugged beauty, its forgotten corners, and the Communities that inhabit them.

Join Lachlan Morton at the TDU Big Bike Film Night in Adelaide on Friday, January 24, for the premiere of The Great Southern Country, the latest EF Pro Cycling and Thereabouts documentary presented by Cannondale and POC, which follows Lachy’s record-setting ride around Australia. There will be an on-stage interview with Lachlan at 6:30pm before the film begins at 8:30pm.

A second showing will be held on January 30th at the Chauvel Cinema Paddington in Sydney, before the film is released on YouTube. Come join Lachy at 7pm (doors open at 6:30pm) for a night with drinks, snacks, a live Q&A, and more.

Lachy is excited to take you behind the scenes of his Around Australia Record. It was the hardest ride that Lachy has ever done. It was also a tremendous experience that brought Lachlan closer to his home country and his family and friends. On the way, he raised over $141,000 AUD for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, an organization that provides books and learning resources to Indigenous children living in remote Communities across Australia. There is still time to donate.

As Lachlan’s dot circumnavigated the map of Australia, his brother Gus was there with him on the road, capturing all of the late-night starts, the roadside lunches, headwinds, tailwinds, wrong turns, and magpie attacks. He captured every moment, from when Lachy was cracked in the ice bath to when he was cruising along to the hum of his tires. Gus watched him ride from sunrise to sunset across remote stretches of the outback and came to understand what drives Lachlan better, out there in the rugged beauty of rural Australia.

Go along for the journey with them, as Lachlan explores The Great Southern Country.
