All set for De Ronde

Our squads are excited for the Tour of Flanders

April 3, 2025

On Sunday, the Flemish classics will reach their crescendo at De Ronde.

Nina Berton, Letizia Borghesi, Alison Jackson, Sarah Roy, and Noemi Rüegg will race for EF Education-Oatly.

Max Walker, Owain Doull, Mikkel Honoré, Harry Sweeny, Neilson Powless, Colby Simmons, and Marijn van den Berg are ready to fly over the cobbles for EF Education-EasyPost.

All spring, our riders have been looking forward to rattling over the farm roads that define Sunday’s race course during De Ronde. They have hit its cobbled sectors and climbs over and over again during the classics that lead up to this weekend. The Belgian crowds have been as great as ever this spring. On Sunday they will be even bigger, as tens of thousands of supporters trek out to the slopes of hills like the Koppenberg, Paterberg, and Oude Kwaremont to party and watch the pelotons grit their way up the bergs. De Ronde is practically a national holiday in Flanders: the Flemish people call it the Hoogmis – High Mass. The winner will become a national hero, no matter where they are from. Every classics rider dreams of becoming a Flandrien.

“The Ronde van Vlaanderen is my favorite race of the whole year,” says up-and-coming Luxembourger Nina Berton. “It is the biggest race that you have in Flanders and also the oldest one. Every cyclist who loves the classics and has any aspirations wants to win one. And the biggest goal and also dream is to win the Ronde van Vlaanderen for sure. This is the one race that I would really like to win.”

Dwars door Vlaanderen winner Neilson Powless didn’t grow up thinking he would be a classics rider. A strong performance on the cobbles at the 2022 Tour de France sparked his imagination. The next spring, he went to De Ronde and finished fifth and fell in love with the race.

“Flanders is a race that demands a complete cyclist,” Neilson says. “That is the best way I could describe myself. I'm not the best climber and I'm not the best sprinter and I am not the best time trialist, but I'm pretty good at all of them, so I feel like I'm very complete. That is a blessing and a curse, but I think for Flanders, it's a blessing. If I had to pick one race, Flanders is my top, top, top favorite.”

Neilson is coming into De Ronde on a high after his win Wednesday at Dwaars door Vlaanderen. At 269 kilometers, Sunday’s Ronde van Vlaanderen will be a different beast. Neilson is going to leave everything on the road.

“I hope I can fight for the win, or at least fight for the podium,” Neilson says. “In these races, you need a bit of luck but you also need confidence. I definitely gained one of those at Dwars.”

Letizia Borghesi is in the form of her life going into De Ronde. The Italian matched the biggest favorites’ attacks on the Kemmelberg last weekend at Gent-Wevelgem. Although the elite group she was in got brought back and the race ended in a bunch sprint, chances are high that the same move would stay away at the Tour of Flanders and Letizia wants to be in it again.

“From the Omloop up to now, I have had really, really good feelings, and I improved race after race,” Letizia says. “Going into Gent, I knew that my level was really high and I was expecting to be able to stay there, but it is always different to expect that and actually be able to do it, because in the races a lot of things can go differently. I was really happy to be there with the four best riders in the world at the top of the berg. That gives me extra motivation for the coming races and for the future. I did my first Tour of Flanders when I was 18 and on a small Italian team and from the first time that I rode on those cobbles, I was like, this is the race that I love the most and where I want to do well one day. I love everything about it. There are so many small but steep climbs, cobbles, sometimes it's windy and rainy. Just the atmosphere with all the people cheering along the road is really special. All those things together makes this race so special for me. It is my favorite race and it is special to be a part of it and give some strong emotions to the supporters. They really appreciate our performances. It is nice to know that you are inspiring a lot of people and a lot of kids.”
