EF Education-EasyPost lines up for TDU
Our men’s squad heads to Australia to open the 2025 racing season
The 2025 edition of Tour Down Under marks a quarter century of the racing season starting in Australia and our EF Education-EasyPost squad couldn’t be more ready.
Alastair MacKellar, Esteban Chaves, Jardi van der Lee, Lukas Nerurkar, Markel Beloki, Max Walker, and Yuhi Todome will take on six stages for a total of 819 kilometers around Adelaide’s coast and hills. The action gets underway on Tuesday. At Tour Down Under, you can always count on the weather to be warm, the climbs to be hard, and the racing to be explosive.
Here’s what our riders had to say about racing the Tour Down Under.
Markel Beloki
This is my first time in Australia so I’m really looking forward to being part of the race and to see how the body responds after a long period without racing.
The main goal for me is to show a good level of fitness and to enjoy the race as much as I can.
Esteban Chaves
It’s important to get back into race mode. After a long period without racing, sometimes the first race is a shock, mentally and physically, so leaving this block of races in good health is the first priority.
The stage on Willunga always shows the difference. They say that’s the queen stage but this year we have a pretty hard one finishing in Uraidla with more than 3000 meters of elevation in just 150 kilometers. Heat will be crucial as well and the quick adaptation with the time difference is key.
Alastair MacKellar
It’s unreal to be starting my first ever WorldTour race here in Australia, and there couldn’t be a better race to start my first season as a WorldTour professional. I’ll have some family and friends from back home on the Sunshine Coast watching on the roads in Adelaide, which is super special as it’s very rare that these people can make the trip to Europe to watch me race. I’m going to enjoy the moments and soak it all in and just enjoy, while giving my all in the racing for the team.
I’m really excited to start my first race with the team at such a highly regarded WorldTour race, but especially with it being on home soil. I’ve been given such an amazing opportunity and I can’t wait to make the most of it!
Lukas Nerurkar
TDU will be my first test of the year so looking forward to seeing generally how I stack up against the rest of the field. There’s some good opportunities for stage hunting for me in the second part of the race so I’ll try my best to have a good crack at those.
Stages three, four, and five all look like nice stages. For me, stage five on Willunga is really exciting as it’s the stage I’ve always remembered from TDU. I’d watch the peloton on TV smash it up there when I was younger.
Max Walker
I think the most important stages of the race will be stages three and four. These are the stages with the most elevation gain and hardest climbs. It will be important to look after and position our GC rider well on these stages.
I can’t wait to do my first race with EF Education-EasyPost. I will be racing with a smile on my face. It’s been a lifelong dream to get to this stage in my career and I’m going to give everything I’ve got to try to help the team win.
Yuhi Todome
I’m happy to be in Australia and I’m really looking forward to seeing a koala!
The route is so hard, particularly stage five. It looks like a proper climb and the weather during TDU is so hot, so it’s going to be a hard race.
Jardi van der Lee
I am happy to be back and looking forward to racing again after the winter season. Australia is a good way for me to start the year where I can really prepare myself well for the rest of the season. Also with the knowledge I gained racing TDU last year, I am already a few steps ahead of last year.
Looking at the parcours it will be an interesting one. Willunga Hill is normally where the decision falls, but with an interesting finish like stage three you never know. Staying focused and racing to help my teammates will be the most important goal for me. When there’s an opportunity, I am ready to take it with both hands.
