EF Pro Cycling sets the tone at the Amstel Gold Race

Our men’s and women’s squads attacked the first of the Ardennes classics

April 20, 2025

We raced round one of the Ardennes classics the way we love to race.

Deep in the finales of both the men’s and women’s Amstel Gold Races, our riders went for it, flying up the climbs of South Limburg. Alison Jackson’s seventh and Ben Healy’s tenth in the Dutch classic are good results. But if we keep racing how we raced Amstel – as a team, willing to take chances and throw it all out there together to go for the win – great things are going to happen this week in the Ardennes. On Sunday in the Netherlands, in front of huge Easter crowds, we showed that we have the form. Wednesday is Flèche Wallone. And then, next Sunday is Liège-Bastogne-Liège. Bring on those races.

Read our riders’ thoughts from the finish line of the Amstel Gold Race.

Ben Healy

I’ve got mixed emotions. I think I rode a pretty good race and I had the legs, but it's a tactical race and maybe I just missed out a little bit here or there. That is what makes it such a great race. After this, I have got a positive mindset and am optimistic going into the next races. I know that the form is there.

Ben and I were up there, fighting for a podium place for a while. I was caught out a little bit when Evenepoel went and I tried to chase him. I was already on my limit, cramping from quite a ways out. I kept coming back because the climbs are short. So I just tried to ride a steady pace to get back and help Ben. In the end, Ben and I were both just missing a bit too much snap to really get away again. Ben put in a really nice move with around 10 kilometers to go, but unfortunately he couldn't stick it. I think he was having trouble getting guys to work with him. People know that he's a super strong rider and he's going be strong the last time up the Cauberg, so they were nervous to ride with him. I felt really strong. I was just cramping off and on, which inhibited me a bit. Now, I’m looking forward to the rest of the Ardennes!

Alison Jackson

It was really hurty and it was a bit lonely in the front. I couldn't hear anybody in the radio. But, it was nice to be in the pointy end of the race in the action. I'm so tired now. I can't even do a dance.

Noemi Rüegg

It was a pretty tough day. It was really hectic and fast from the beginning, but we worked well as a team and stayed together. I felt great over the first few climbs before the circuit.

We were with Cèdrine and AJ in a reduced group, but then it all came back together. AJ immediately went into this big breakaway, which was super strong, and they stayed away until the finish, which was a bit unexpected.

We still did a great finish. There were just 20-some riders still ahead. AJ was super strong and saved our day.

Looking at our teamwork, we can look forward to the next two races. We rode really well together and that's for sure what we take forward. We know that we are all really strong individuals and just need a bit more luck. I’m excited!
