Kristen Faulkner wins stage 2 of Trofeo Ponente in Rosa
Kim Cadzow keeps the leader’s jersey
Kristen Faulkner claimed victory on stage 2 of Trofeo Ponente in Rosa, just ahead of teammate Kim Cadzow who remains the general classification leader.
At just 71 kilometers long, the stage featured four categorized climbs, including a category-two climb just three kilometers before the finish. As expected, the day was fast and furious.
“The team gave a really good lead out into the first climb,” Kristen said. “Mags [Magdeleine] pushed the pace at the bottom. I tried to attack but Jolanda [Neff] got on my wheel so Clara Koppenburg set a really hard pace at the top to basically drop the Swiss team and to isolate Jolanda. Then it was me, Clara Koppenburg, Clara Emond, and Kim at the top with Jolanda. She attacked on the descent and we chased her. We all came into the finale together. I took a flier with two K to go. Jolanda chased me. Kim got on her wheel and went around her when she blew in the last 200 meters. I had a small gap and Kim got second on the stage and so we keep the leader’s jersey for Kim.”
After two days of strong teamwork that have resulted in stage wins and the leader’s jersey, morale is high and the team is motivated to continue in the same vein.
“We’re working super well together,” Kristen said. “Everyone put in a really hard effort and everyone did their role. Morale in the team is super high and we just keep riding really well together which is great. It’s amazing because we don’t have radios so we’re communicating really well. We’re really riding together and that’s our goal for this stage race so that’s a positive.”
The race finishes tomorrow. Let’s go team!
