Tour de France Femmes Daily | Stage 1 | Cédrine Kerbaol gets off to a powerful start in Plumelec

Breton fans cheer hometown heroine up final climb to kick off the race for the yellow jersey

July 26, 2025

Cédrine Kerbaol’s race for the maillot jaune got off to a great start in Plumelec.

To the roar of a huge Breton crowd, Cédrine sprinted up the final hill to finish 13th, just a few seconds back from the winner. She was happy to pay back her teammates, who kept her out of the wind all day, and led her into the final climb.

Stage 1 was fast and nervous, as the peloton raced from Vannes across the rolling Breton countryside to Plumelec, where the last climb of the day had been transformed into a massive arena full of fans. The whole squad rallied around Cédrine to keep her out of trouble at the front of the peloton.

Henrietta Christie and Noemi Rüegg both did huge turns in the final kilometers to bring Cédrine to the front for the sprint.

When the race opened up, Cédrine hung tough and accelerated on the wheels to finish 13th, just a few seconds behind the winner.

Our Tour de France Femmes squad is now looking forward to Stage 2, from Cédrine’s hometown of Brest to Quimper.

Cédrine Kerbaol

It was fast and furious. The climb was super fast. I was not in the best position at the bottom of the climb, which made it harder, but the team did a really good race. We were always with each other. I think this was a good warmup day. We are going to continue to ride as a super good team.

Noemi Rüegg

The finale was super hectic. It was really, really fast. Basically, from the top of the last climb, we were full gas. It was difficult to find Cédrine. The other girls did a really good job positioning us. We weren't really at the front where we wanted to be at the bottom of the climb, but I tried to find her and move her up a bit with a little effort. The end wasn’t quite what we wanted, but I still think that overall we did a really good job as a team, because it was super hectic, fast, and hard to stay together.

Crazy day, like we kind of expected. I mean 75, 80k racing full gas – everything can happen, so I think we did our goal which was not to lose too much time. Unfortunately, we lost some time but it was not as bad as some other teams so I think that was a win. We definitely have some things that we can improve on for the next days but it’s good to learn that on day one so that we can come together as a team and make changes and improve for the next days. So all in all, I would say it’s not a successful successful day. I mean, we always want to win. We’re here to win and the girls are super competitive and also have a high expectation for themselves. But in the end, our big goal of GC is still there. We’re not out of range. Some teams lost everything today, more or less, so I would say we were safe, we stayed upright, and we're ready to fight again tomorrow.
