2025 Giro d'Italia gallery: week one

Harry Talbot’s favorite photographs from the first week of the Giro

May 19, 2025

After a spectacular first week at the Giro d’Italia, Richard Carapaz is fourth in the race for the maglia rosa.

Kiwi photographer Harry Talbot is with us to capture the action. From the Grande Partenza in Albania to the scintillating ninth stage across the strade bianche, Harry’s pictures evoke all of the brutal, beautiful chaos of the Giro.

“For sure it's the most beautiful grand tour,” Harry says. “Italy has these tiny, ancient villages that have seen so much history. Each time we stop, I have the opportunity to walk around and shoot the bike race happening amongst them, which is a super random, special juxtaposition. The Italian fans are so passionate and it’s always super cool to see how many people are excited about bike racing here. I am always trying to figure out where the most beautiful places are, and then what roads we can take to get back in front of the race, and what roads we can take to get to the finish. Do we have enough time to shoot this really nice descent, or this climb, or village? Some days, it's super tight. I just want to make the most of every chance I have to shoot here at the Giro.”

As the Giro heads into its second week with a second time trial and mountains looming, Harry will keep doing just that. For now, open this page on the biggest screen you have got and enjoy his favorite photos from the first week of the Giro.
