Two weeks down, one to go.
The second week of the Giro brought ups and downs, perhaps inevitably. Immediately after the first rest day, the team was flying high thanks to Magnus Cort's stunning win from the breakaway on stage 10. Just the next morning however, we lost a faithful teammate and powerful climber in Jonathan Caicedo who went home due to illness. Two stages later, we held our breath watching Alexander Cepeda, a grand tour debutant, mark his own rhythm climbing Crans-Montana, coming within seconds of taking the win. Stefan de Bod went home just before the second rest day when a wound from an earlier crash became infected. It's been a mixed bag.
The race now travels through northern Italy for the big mountain stages, precisely what Hugh Carthy has been looking forward to. Meanwhile, Alberto Bettiol has been riding with a quiet strength and Ben Healy is on the hunt for another stage win, nearly pulling it off on stage 15. Can the rookie make it happen?
Before we embark on the six remaining stages, enjoy some of our favorite photos from the Giro's second week.
