TdFF Daily | Stage 6 | Kristen Faulkner holds on to general classification podium spot
Our double Olympic gold medalist has nothing to lose and is excited to race hard in the Alps.
Kristen rode a smart race, saving her strength until she had to spend it to stay in contention, and managed to hang on over the explosive final climbs to finish just behind the lone winner with the yellow jersey group.
When attacks started to fly on the Cote des Fris, she kept her rhythm, fighting her way back to the best climbers in the race before the summit. Down the descent and up the long drag to the finish, she didn’t panic. Her rivals had teammates in the group, so it was up to them to chase.
Tomorrow will be a big test for Kristen as the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift heads into the Alps. The penultimate stage crosses the Col de la Sierra, Cote de Bois de l’Arlod, and Cote de Cercler, and Col-de-Saint-Jean-de-Sixt before the final climb to the summit of La Grand Bornand. In total, there are 3,015 vertical meters of climbing on the course. Kristen is ready. Noemi Rüegg and Lotta Henttala are going to ride their hearts out to help her.
Our double Olympic gold medalist and American champ is just 19 seconds back from the lead in the race for the maillot jaune after the tough sixth stage, which took the peloton from the Vosges mountains to the Jura.
Before they hit the Alps, hear their thoughts from after Stage 6.

That was so hard. I saw the break go and I almost jumped into it, but I knew they wouldn't let me go, so there was kind of no point and then I figured it would get brought back. There weren't that many attacks because there was no point and the QOM points were taken by the break. So, it was this hard, steady pace all day. We hit the roundabout with one kilometer to go and I was hoping to jump around people in the finale, but after the one-k-to-go mark, the barriers came up and it became super narrow, and you just couldn't move up.
I want to see what I can do these next two stages . Why waste any fitness I have, right? Based on how I felt on the climbs today, I think it'd be a little arrogant to think I can stay with the climbers the next few days, but I am going to race hard, right? What do we have to lose?

It was quite a hard day. I just tried to get through it and see how it went after my crash yesterday. I actually didn't feel too bad with my legs, but on that steeper climb, I was just a bit empty and I couldn't follow Kristen's group. That was a bit disappointing, but I couldn't expect a lot more after yesterday’s crash. I hope the next two days go a bit better.
I will have to see how I feel. Kristen is in a good GC position and we have nothing to lose. So, we can just go all in.
